MLA Member Code of Conduct

As a member of The Montana Landlords Association, I agree to conduct my residential Landlord/Tenant relationships in accordance with these standards:
  • Conduct all business transactions in a straightforward and honest manner with active knowledge of and affirmative compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Comply with federal, state and local fair-housing laws and not discriminate against persons because of age, race, color, religion, creed, national origin, sex, disability or handicap, or marital or familial status.
  • Utilize written Rental Agreements that comply with the Montana Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, enforce the terms and conditions of each Rental Agreement consistently among residents and provide a copy of the written Rental Agreement to each resident.
  • Respond promptly to tenant complaints and address grievances in a fair, honest and timely fashion.
  • Return all Security Deposits or provide proper accounting for any appropriate deductions within the legal time limit.
  • Treat tenants and business vendors with respect and integrity.
  • Encourage employees to be proactively involved in and otherwise supportive of MLA and community based programs and to conduct themselves appropriately at such functions.
  • Encourage tenants and business vendors to file written complaints regarding any violation of this Code of Conduct and strive to resolve all written complaints promptly.

The Montana Landlords Association and each Chapter thereof reserves the right to deny, suspend or terminate the membership of any member who knowingly and repeatedly violates this Code of Conduct or fails to promptly resolve any written complaint filed against them
